Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing, and a modality where the practitioner places their hands over or directly onto the body. By doing so, a 'universal energy' is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient to encourage emotional or physical balance, and remove blockages within the spiritual body.

What is Reiki?

Reiki rebalances the human biofield and supports self-healing. During a session, the practitioner can manipulate the flow of qi (life force) to treat a pain, disease or ailment, both physically and emotionally. By recalibrating the vibrational field of the individual at the subtlest level, their health and immune function can be improved, memories release, emotional blockages unclogged, and can create an overall sense of calm and connection of mind-body-spirit.

History

Reiki, or energy healing, is stemmed from many various backgrounds such as Shamanism, Ancient Egyptians, Ancient Greek, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Polynesian Kahunas, and the Essenes Jews.

Chinese healers identified 12 major meridians, or pathways of energy, in the body. These meridians link various limbs and organs together in an intricate network.

In Native Hawaii, Kahuna's (spiritual priests) carried out practices such as 'Hoʻokomokomo' (divination), 'Lapaʻau', (medicinal healing), and 'Nānāuli' (magic).

In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), 'qi' (life force), or prana in Ayurveda, is altered by the energy healers in order to cure disease or pain caused by an imbalance of life force.
